Frequently Asked Question:
PDF colouring boxes in a layer
I have an application that monitors nurse calls. Each ward alreday has a PDF created for it that shows the beds. I would like to create a layer where I can colour the beds by filling boxes depending on the call I am receiving from the bed. I need to do this dynamically so as to be as live as possible while displaying the pdf in a viewer. Can I use Quick pdf to impliment this?
Out of the box Quick PDF will not do this without some programming.
What language and tool are you using ? Are you wanting to use Acrobat as the viewer. If so then Quick PDF library is not able to interact with the viewer and keep it updated or are you prepared to write some programming code ?
Are you manually clicking on the PDF to change the colour of the beds as you take the call ? Also will you manually reset the bed back to normal colour when the call is over or the issue has been resolved ?
An option would be to use Quick PDF library to render the PDF file to an image. I would then display that image the screen in my program and draw in the colour boxes into the bitmap using simple graphics calls.
Another option is to use JavaScript to draw the colored boxes when you tick a check box on the form. This would require a little bit of work and some Javascript knowledge.
Lots of questions to answer. Basically Quick PDF can do many things. It just depends on exactly how you want and need to go about doing them.
